Greetings and welcome to the site for the version of The Greek New Testament: SBL Edition for the Amazon Kindle that has been created by myself i.e. Timothy Lee.
In case you don't know The Greek New Testament: SBL Edition (A.K.A. the SBLGNT) is a new critical edition of the greek new testament that is edited by Michael W. Holmes and published by the Society of Biblical Literature and Logos Bible Software.
SBLGNT for Kindle
My version includes the full text of the SBLGNT including the front matter and the critical apparatus. It makes use of the kindle's dictionary lookup feature to make it fast and easy find a chapter or verse based on the first three letters of the book name.
Instructions for use
To find a verse simply open the SBLGNT on your kindle, type the first three letters of the book name (note: Philemon is 'phm') followed by a space and your chapter and verse number and press select when the correct result is displayed at the top of the screen (note: No semicolon is necessary but the correct verse may occasionally not be the top result. When this occurs simply use the five way controller to go down to the correct result and then press select)
The current version also includes the critical apparatus. When a verse has a critical apparatus note associated with it then the verse number becomes a link which you can then select to go to the note. Once done you can hit back to return to your previous location in the text. Note: Due to the dificulties inherent in displaying certain obscure characters on the kindle, some of the symbols used by the critical apparatus of the SBLGNT print and pdf versions have been replaced with a similar character in the kindle version.
Usable Platforms
This version of the SBLGNT is designed specifically for use on the kindle. The verse lookup will not work on the kindle apps for pc or mac and I doubt it will work on the kindle apps for mobile devices either. If you want to access the SBLGNT on your computer or mobile device your best bet is to download it in a different format (e.g. PDF or .txt) here or access it on the web using one of a number of resources such as biblia.com or biblegateway.com or download a mobile reader app that can access the SBLGNT such as the Olive Tree BibleReader that is available here.
History
I created this version of the SBLGNT for kindle because of the need for a good and easy to use copy of the SBLGNT on the Amazon Kindle platform. It was originally published by Bible Translator Drew Maust at his blog katadrew.com. I moved it here so that I could easily make updates and provide the necassary information for its continued use.
